In an order released by the state, it said: “The Disaster Management Act, 2005, finds it is necessary to continue the enforcement of the current restrictions throughout the state beyond 7 AM on 1st May 2021 till 7 AM on 15th May 2022 to break the chain of transmission effectively.”
Meanwhile, the state’s daily COVID-19 vaccination figure has dropped by 1.5 lakh amid the current shortage of doses, an official said Thursday. The overall inoculation count of the state at present stands at over 1.55 crore, he said.

This comes a day after the Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) announced that it will reduce the price of its Covishield vaccine to state governments to Rs 300 per dose. The central government had asked SII and Bharat Biotech to lower the price of their Covid-19 vaccines amid criticism from several states who have accused the companies of profiteering from the crisis. Bharat Biotech on Thursday announced that Covaxin will be available to state governments at a price of Rs 400 per dose. The firm, which had earlier pegged the price of the vaccine at Rs 600 per dose for state governments, said in a statement: “Recognising the enormous challenges to the public health care system, we have made Covaxin available to state governments at a price of Rs 400/dose.”
India reported 3.79 lakh new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, it’s the sharpest spike since the pandemic first gripped the country last year. With this, the total caseload rose to 1.8 crores. Meanwhile, with 3,645 deaths, the death toll surged to 2.04 lakh.
